Re-usable menstrual products
Cloth pads or menstrual cups, which are not disposed of after one use but washed and used for several years.
Cloth pads
Ecowoman clothpads are a reusable alternative to disposable pads. They are made from layers of absorbent fabrics (such as cotton or hemp) which are worn by a woman while she is menstruating. After use, they are washed, dried and then reused.
Liner
Ecowoman liners are made from Hemp and Cotton. Liners are inserted into the soft flannel outer shell and absorb your menstrual flow. They are removed then washed and dried after use along with the outer shell.
Shell
Ecowoman cloth pads have a soft flannel outer shell, which acts like an envelope into which the liner is placed. The wings are then wrapped around the gusset of your knickers and snapped shut.
Menstrual cup
The Mooncup is a reusable menstrual cup around two inches long and made from soft silicone rubber. It is worn internally like a tampon but collects menstrual fluid rather than absorbing. Unlike tampons the Mooncup is not a disposable product, so you only need to buy one.
Toxic Shock Syndrome or TSS
TSS is a rare but sometimes fatal disease. Tampon-related TSS was identified in 1980 when a number of deaths were directly linked to a specific brand of superabsorbent tampon, subsequently withdrawn from sale. The symptoms of TSS come on fast and are often severe. In 2001, a 13-year-old British girl died of tampon-related TSS after using tampons for the very first time throughout her period. TSS has been linked to the use of super-absorbent and newer, less absorbent tampons made of viscose rayon, both with and without cotton. (Source WEN)
